the {not so good} burger was SEVENTEEN dollars

after a lazy Sunday morning with nicholas
{including coffee, blueberry muffins and watching our DVDs of the Office}
we decided not to go to the Fort Worth Bridal Show.

it just seemed like i would be bombarded with cheesy wedding stuff
and I really didn't feel like going.
{nick agreed.}

after a quick run to target
{my blow dryer died today}
we stopped at Tillman's Roadhouse, a new restaurant in town, to grab a bite to eat.
Lauren lives basically above this restaurant and loved it, so we thought we'd give it a try.

{the chandeliers were awesome!}

I had been craving a cheeseburger and fries... so we ordered the closest thing to burger.
{oh, don't let the "roadhouse" in the name throw you off! this place was very pricey.}

we ordered a couple beers and...

the $17 "landy" burger

sirloin-foie gras burger with Madeira aioli, Tassioni Farms pea tendrils, goat milk gouda cheese on a house baked kaiser bun. Goat cheese tater tots.

don't get me wrong... it wasn't bad, BUT it was not worth $17.
i'd much rather had Kincaid's, Charleston's or even a Whataburger burger with some regular french fries and Whataburger ketchup {the best}!

maybe i'll give them a second chance for
happy hour on the patio
when the weather warms up again.

wedding party updates

I am so happy about my awesome bridal party for the wedding.

I've already mentioned how happy I am that

The rest of the party includes my wonderful friends
Lauren and Allison aka Peppers.

Lauren and I lived together for 2 years during college and have so many fun memories.
She sent me such a sweet engagement card.
{via our Aug 2009 trip to Costa Rica}
{lo lo and lu lu}

And Peppers is my big sister in DG.
She is getting married this June in Georgia and I get to be her bridesmaid, too.
And, you can see how much she loves me here.
{Peppers, me and Lauren}

Each one of these women have such a special place in my heart.
I am so lucky to have friends like them!

fajitas and 'ritas.

Saturday night we went to Joe T's for some
delicious Mexican food and margaritas.

{we are trying to get a reservation to have the Rehearsal Dinner here,
but still haven't had any luck talking to the person we need to...
she was "on the other line" when i called on 3 different days last week
and never returned my messages. today she is out sick.
and she is the only one who can help me,
according to the girl who answers the phones.
if I didn't love Joe T's so much, this experience would
have made me abandon and look elsewhere.}

regardless, Saturday night was a blast. we literally had about 30 people there.
after Joe T's we all met up at Capital Bar off University.
which has a wonderful rooftop patio. too bad our propane heater stopped
working and we had to move inside.

p.s. i photoshoped my bangs.
they are actually about 1 inch shorter than that... still growing

Still looking for bridesmaid dresses.

Found out that those cute yellow bridesmaid dresses from J. Crew i love so much are all sold out.

and, I emailed the wedding person at J. Crew and they aren't going to have any shades of yellow in the Spring 2010 or Summer 2010 collections.

Relaxing at home with Nicholas tonight on this lovely Friday evening!

He even made me dinner: fried shrimp, broccoli and garlic bread!
AND he did the dishes.

Wow... I am a very lucky girl.

Last night was like a Friday night though.
I went to the Young Guns Party for the Cowgirl Museum with Lauren.
It was catered by the Reata. I love that place.

This has been one long week!
And, unfortunately it's not over yet.
I have to work this weekend.

Things to look forward to:
Saturday night @ Joe T's with about 30 of my closest friends

Monday and Tuesday off a.k.a. time to work on all the wedding planning!

{October 2009}

Also wonderful news:
Meghan is going to be one of my bridesmaids.
I'm so thrilled.
Meghan was my roommate when we lived in the sorority house.
{& I was a bridesmaid in her wedding.}

Oh, by the way, for all the people {Meghan} that recommended I read Bridal Bargains... That book is scaring me. I'm so afraid I'm going to get ripped off now! I have several contracts to read through...

Enjoy your weekend.

Remember when my bangs were robbed from me on Saturday?

Well today, I went back to the salon and Ray {my usual hair guy} fixed my bangs.

Thank god.

Granted they are still short, but at least they are straight and even now!

Hopefully I can get them looking good soon for engagement pictures.

We met with Stephanie and Joe of JosephMark Photography on Sunday,
a husband and wife team out of Dallas.
{We loved them.}
Check them out.
Their photographs are amazing.

My sorority sister Brianna
{who is getting married a week or two before me}
hired them for her engagements/wedding.
There are more of her pictures on her Bridal Blog, but here is my favorite:

sooooo romantic.

our matchmaker is my maid of honor

Today, I asked Justine to be my Maid of Honor!
She said yes, of course.

{justine and lacey in costa rica, august 2009}

Nicholas and I really wanted to honor Justine
with this special role at the wedding because:

- she is so important to nicholas and i because she introduced us
{and knew we would be great together}
- we've been friends for about 6 years
{we met standing in line for Rush right before my freshman year of college...
it was alphabetical order and both of out last names begin with "Sh."}
- we always have so much fun together
{especially traveling, playing board games and just being silly with all of our friends}
- she is such a good planner :)
{she's already thinking about the bachelorette party!}

very exciting!

Can you imagine Nicholas and I dancing to this song on our wedding night?

it is one of our favorites.

why would someone who calls themselves a professional do this to another human being?

{not happy}

{at my hair salon}
Lacey: "Hi, I know I don't have an appointment, but is Ray in today? I just need a little bit trimmed off my bangs."
{ray = my usual guy}

 Receptionist: "No, but _____ can help you. He's available right now."
Lacey: "I just want my bangs trimmed a bit. I still want them to touch my eyebrows."

New Guy: "Ok, no problem. We'll start slow so I don't take to much off. We can always take more off after if you want."

{New Guy cutting into my bangs as i'm facing away from the mirror}

Lacey: "What are you doing?"

New Guy: "I'm taking some of the weight off so they aren't so heavy and blunt."

Lacey: "Whoa, but I want them heavy and blunt, like they were. I just wanted them trimmed to my eyebrows."

New Guy: "Yep, that's what I'm doing."

{New Guy still chopping away}

Lacey: "I'm sure they're short enough by now..."

New Guy: "I'm almost done. I'm just a perfectionist. I want them to frame your beautiful face."

See everyone in about 3 weeks when these babies are grown out....

guest post from my love, Nicholas, re: Christmas Eve Proposal

thanks everyone for all of the congrats!! it was a great experience that I will never forget.... although, Lacey did forget to mention a few small parts.

As she mentioned and you all know, when Lacey has something in mind, she will ask 20 times a day and continue to work for what she wants, which is of course why i LOVE her. Lacey wanted to be together for Christmas, so she let me know it. And here in lies the problem. I had been planning on surprising her for Christmas for some time, but had to be the bad guy and say no to her persistence.

Also, leading up to the proposal was a little hectic. Within 5 days before the proposal I had taken a final for my Grad Accounting class, flew to CA for work, drove to and from Nebraska, and flew to South Texas. Basically, I had to drive 22 hours to and from NE only to stay there for 40 hours just to throw Lacey off from the surprise. BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT :) To make matters a little more stressful, an ice storm followed by a blizzard was ready to strike Omaha and my flight was leaving from Dallas.

Once I arrived in Harlingen, my nerves took over and the next few hours were a blur.....all I remember is a loud scream and most importantly a "YESSSS!:)".

a day fit for Justine

Yesterday Nicholas and I drove out to Dallas to surprise Justine for her birthday{!}

SURPRISE #1: a delicious Mexican brunch at Cyclone Anaya's with best friends.

We enjoyed mimosas and chips & salsa while we were waiting for the birthday girl to arrive.

Krista {Justine's roomie} planned the brunch AND festivities for the whole day

SURPRISE! Justine was very happy to see us all there.

{the crew}
I love, love, love these people!

After lots {and I mean LOTS} of laughs, we headed over to the boys' house for...

SURPRISE #2: some good old fashioned fun.... Board Games.
{if you know Justine at all, you'll know that she
just loves board games and was thrilled}

After several rounds of Loaded Questions and laughing 'til we cried...

SURPRISE #3: The girls went to see New Moon {my second time}

Once we got back to Justine and Krista's apartment...

SURPRISE #4:Lasagna, salad, wine, cupcakes and more board games
{strategically set-up by friends Sarah and Michelle while we were at the movies}.

I wish you all the best in the year to come...
a year filled with love, laughs and pure joy.
Happy, happy birthday.
I'm so glad I could celebrate with you!

i would love a picture just like this for our wedding

i love the blue shoes and i especially love the popcorn!
{Have been chatting with different photographers, but haven't decided who yet.}

Left work early yesterday due to a mixture of food poisoning, dehydration & low blood sugar {not fun}. This was not a good week for me; I missed two days of work...
Very abnormal.
Thankfully feeling much better today!

Heading out to Dallas for brunch for Justine's birthday.
Enjoy your weekend.... Stay warm!!

i'm so full of love and a charleston's cheeseburger I could burst.

afterall, I am a professional.

going to the chapel

Well, hopefully.

Nicholas and I didn't quite realize how difficult it would be to have
a Catholic wedding!
I also didn't realize {until yesterday} that in order for the Catholic church to recognize your marriage, it must be a Catholic wedding with a Catholic priest AND Catholic priests will only marry you in a church
{as opposed to in a garden, etc}.

Unfortunately, our favorite church in Fort Worth
{Saint Patrick's Cathedral with breathtaking stained glass}

requires one year of membership {a.k.a. donations} before you can be married there.
We don't want to wait that long.

So on top of both of us suffering from a nasty cold
{i called in sick to work on Monday}
 we've been trying to figure everything out!

I would love to get married at this darling chapel...

{Marty Leonard Community Chapel}

Cross your fingers!

we're gonna party like it's 1999

Well, I was 13 in 1999... so not really.
But that's the song we danced to right before we counted down to 2010.

After a FEAST at Reata with friends, we made our way over to
 Lola's on 6th for a little live music
{the orbens and the burning hotels}

i hope 2010 is ready for us!
