sometimes, when i go to the grocery store, i want to run into my patients.

{and the patients that i'm referring to are the Cardiac Rehab patients that i see twice a week.
I teach them allllll about a heart healthy diet.}

when i'm being a really good dietitian at the store, i secretly wish i would see a patient. they'd glance into my basket, and think wow - this girl really practices what she preaches. they'd tell all their cardiac rehab friends that i had healthy things in my basket, too.

take last week for example. my basket was filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, almond milk, whole wheat pasta, tomato basil sauce, yogurt, red wine, 2% mozzarella cheese, whole wheat english muffins, and extra lean ground beef.

very healthy and well balanced.

today, however, i did NOT want to see anyone i know.

if you took a look into my basket today, you would've thought it some frat guy's grocery selections.

frozen pizza.
beer. lots of beer.*
2 bottles of wine. cheap wine.
3 cans of chili. without beans.
a bag of cheese. a huge one.
frozen taquitos. 60.*
corn tortillas.

{i also had a couple of avocados, an onion and a birthday card - but those aren't too fratty.}

i always feel so guilty buying things a dietitian shouldn't be buying.

granted the beer and taquitos are for our cinco de mayo party - so i won't be consuming that all by myself.

still, i was so nervous one of my patients would walk on by and their jaw would drop to the floor after one glance at all the junk in my basket.

thank goodness i've never actually seen any of my patients at the grocery store.

everything in moderation, though. right?!?

i don't want to wear pants anymore!

and if i could afford all these gorgeous, colorful dresses and skirts from anthropologie,
i wouldn't have to.

i'm just loving all of their new clothes and accessories.
everything would be perfect for our hawaii honeymoon in september.

i really want a fedora and some new shades, too.

i am really looking forward to this weekend!

can't wait to share the rest of them!

our wedding gift from a stranger.

i've been looking for some window panes to use in place of the escort cards at our wedding.
something like either of these...

i saw some on craigslist, but it seemed more of a pain and more than i wanted to spend {$35-$40 each}.
so today i stopped by The Butler's Antiques on 8th Street in Fort Worth, an antique shop, to see if they had any old window panes.

i described what i was looking for, and the lady at the counter sent me out back.
that place had alllll kinds of things. mostly it was junk, but a lot of it just needed some TLC.
old patio sets, rocking chairs, iron headboards, tables, and window panes!

after digging around a bit, i found two window panes that would be perfect!

AND the owner gave them to me as a wedding present.
he even cut glass to replace 2 panes that were missing.
how sweet was that!?!

looks like i have a little DIY project to work on soon!

does anyone know what kind of flower this is?

i like it, but have no idea what is it called.

the porch and house of blues.

oh what a fun saturday to celebrate the end of studying!

nick and i met up with friends krista, hogan, and justine in dallas.

we had dinner at the porch on henderson.
we waited over an hour for our table, but the cocktails were delicious and the food was well worth it.

{strawberry bumble fresh was the name of this.
strawberry juice. vodka. champagne. honey. lemon juice}

the table shared some mac-n-cheese for an appetizer.
then nicholas and i spilt a peppered steak and sea salted fries.
yum.
i love steak and fries together!

after dinner, we went over to the House of Blues to hear Lauren's boyfriend's band,
Green River Ordinance.

{lauren's joshie is in the hat on the left.}

they were so good. i didn't realize, but they're kind of a big deal.
they are touring nationally - headed to denver, portland, seattle, and CA next!

here are some of their songs...

i love that this next one is set to scenes from twilight!

it was so awesome to see the crowd singing all their songs and getting so excited about the music.

thanks for inviting us out to show off your man, lauren! :)

it pays to procrastinate.

usually, i am a procrastinator.
i like to wait until the last minute to do things.

{why do it today, when you can do it tomorrow?}

with the wedding, I decided to make an effort not to procrastinate to prevent last minutes stresses.

well, that was a dumb idea.

or, maybe I just didn't think things through.

you see, i've already designed, ordered, and received our invitations and response cards for our september wedding.

herein lies the problem... all of the envelopes including the response cards have my current address printed on them.

i am moving in june.

AGH!

what's a girl to do when all the RSVPs are being mailed to someone else?

mail forwarding? beg the next renter at my address to hold on to them and I'll come by and pick them up? toss the envelopes and make the response a postcard? print new envelopes?

i can't believe i just now realized that.

a piece of cake.

... is what i need after my BRUTAL test this morning.
agggh... it was tough.
one of those tests with questions where several the answers are right,
but you must pick the answer that is most right.

i'll find out in 4-6 weeks whether or not i passed.

here's the deal...
if i pass, trust me, you will find out about it.
i will shout it from the rooftops.
but, if 2 months pass by and you don't hear anything... don't ask.

i'm so excited to be done studying.

back to researching things to do/places to eat in hawaii.
back to apartment hunting.

be back soon.

time to get serious about studying.
my test is this saturday.

i'm really ready to get this over with...

slight change of plans.

this is where i'll be with my husband in september:

although we originally planned for a honeymoon in mexico,
we've decided to go to Maui, Hawaii instead!!

after discussions with my dad about the increasing violence in mexico, we chose to re-think our location.
{the violence has really started the infiltrate the more touristy places,
in addition to the border areas.}

after all, we don't want to have to worry about anything on our honeymoon.

Hawaii was one of our top choices and seems like a much safer, smarter idea.

i am so thrilled with our new spot!
neither nick or i have been to hawaii.

yesterday,we cancelled all of the reservations to mexico and re-booked everything in hawaii!
i also bombarded nicholas with all the hawaiian i know...

aloha. mele kalikimaka. mahalo!

{that's about it}

can't wait to start reading travel books and figure out what we want to do!

everything i would be.

If I was a month, I'd be... September.

If I was a day of the week, I'd be... Saturday.

If I was a time of day, I'd be... ten o'clock in the morning.

If I was a planet, I'd be... Venus.

If I was a sea animal, I'd be... a non-stinging jellyfish.

If I was a liquid, I'd be...  wine.

If I was a gemstone, I'd be... topaz.

If I was a musical instrument, I'd be... a piano.

If I was a piece of furniture, I'd be... a chest of drawers.

If I was a fruit, I'd be... a lemon.

If I was a sound, I'd be... rain on a big umbrella.

If I was a tree, I'd be... a Bradford Pear tree.

If I was a tool, I'd be... scissors.

If I was a flower, I'd be... a dahlia.

If I was a kind of weather, I'd be... a little bit of everything.

If I was a color, I'd be... gray.

If I was an emotion, I'd be... anticipation.

If I was a direction, I'd be... into the sunset.

If I was an element, I'd be... Au {gold}.

If I was a car, I'd be... a Land Rover.

If I was a food, I'd be... cheese enchiladas.

If I was a place, I'd be... a side walk cafe in Paris.

If I was a scent, I'd be... the salty sea air.

If I was a material, I'd be... cotton.

If I was a taste, I'd be... scrumptious.

. . .

thanks to the lovely ladies at a cup full of sunshine and coeur de la for the fun post.
go check out what they would be!

thunderstorms.

it is supposed to rain and storm all day tomorrow.
i hope it's raining when i wake up in the morning.
because for some reason, i feel like watching the rain and lightning
while i drink my coffee + almond milk in my pjs.

more birthday love {and other things}.

my birthday celebration was extended another week,
thanks to my great friends lauren & justine.

check out that loot. i love it all.

especially lauren's homemade and very heartfelt card...

and i opened it up to find...

haha... this year we've had a running joke of making up a birthday song
for each of our friends on their birthday.

we sing it loudly and repeatedly to make the
birthday girl or boy feel very special/embarrassed.

it started in january with "hogie-bear, the birthday bear"

then in march, when lauren's birthday came around it was "l-dub, the birthday bug"

so lucky for me, i got the sweet "lacey-lu, the birthday poo"

i love my friends.

main street fort worth arts festival.

the arts festival on sunday was a blast.
main street was completely shut down and it was lined with a wide array of art exhibits.
as we strolled along, we enjoyed street performers, live music and good food.
the weather was a little overcast - but it was perfect because it wasn't too hot.

some of the artists' work was just ridiculous!
but most of it was pretty good.

i even had a corn dog!

friday night and ready to unwind.

i'm so happy the weekend is here!
{so happy}
i've had some stressful and disheartening days at work this week.
as silly as it is, blogging and reading other peoples' blogs makes me really happy and i love reading everyone's sweet, caring comments.

i got a manicure after work today to just relax and indulge.
even though i've been engaged since christmas, i still have to keep my nails looking great so i can show off my ring! :)
and, i've finally found a place i really like for great mani/pedi.

now, i'm sitting on the couch, enjoying an ice cold cerveza.

i'm going to try to get some studying in this weekend.
then, round 2 of my birthday celebration on sunday! yay.

i hope everyone has a great weekend.
