i love this forget-me-knot ring!

happy friday everyone! just wanted to remind y'all to enter to win a $35 gift card to CSN. check out this post for the details!

take me back to maui. part three.

sorry these maui posts have been so sporadic, here's part one and part two as a reminder!

i thought i'd share some pictures of the resort we stayed at for our honeymoon! we stayed at the sheraton maui resort & spa. we actually ended up choosing this resort because of my credit card points. i had enough points saved up that we received 5 free nights in an ocean front room! we stayed a total of 6 nights, so we ended up just have to pay for one night. (cha-ching!)

i loved having such a great beach and great snorkeling right in front of our room! so convenient. the resort also had a huge pool with waterfalls and prompt bar service! talk about relaxing...

this full rainbow welcomed us right when we arrived at the resort!
the view from our lanai. not too shabby!

 the fantastic pool.

 our little slice of paradise.

it was so great to watch the sunset from our balcony!

full bar with a great happy hour!
and perfect view of the sunset over blackrock.

seriously, i'm ready to go back!
the ONLY downside to booking our hotel through my credit card points was that the reservation was in my name... my maiden name. so, everyone at the resort kept saying Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Shields (my maiden name!), Welcome Back Mr. and Mrs. Shields, Good Evening Mr. Shields, etc.
and, it didn't matter how many times we tried to correct them,
they just couldn't figure it out. oh well!

christmas cards are ordered!

Shimmering Snowflake Tree Christmas Card
Shop Shutterfly for elegant custom Christmas photo cards.
View the entire collection of cards.

nicholas and i just ordered our christmas cards! are we ahead of schedule, or what? we ended up getting them from shutterfly. they have such great holiday photo cards and best prices i've seen. what do you think? it took me forever to sort through all of our wedding pictures and choose just one! i was thinking about doing a multi-picture card, but then I decided to go with just one big picture for a bigger impact. this is also a great way for everyone who wasn't able to make it to the wedding to see how handsome my groom looked! :)

oh, and if you get one of these in your mailbox, please act surprised!

now i just need these coordinating address labels! since we have a new address (and I have a new last name) we don't have any kind of address labels. now i jut need to get to addressing them all!

halloween flashback. way back.

halloween 1993.

ah, my lovely husband as a bloodsucking vampire. and, a candy hoarder.
doesn't he look mischievous?!

day trip.

{a couple of lattes over the weekend}

good morning! i'm heading to sausalito the first time with a new friend, Casey. she just moved from texas to california for her husband's job, too - we have a lot in common! we're going to have lunch there and explore the city a bit.

any of you california readers have any suggestions for where to have lunch?

sunday night rambling.

it's been raining all weekend here in california. but, not enough rain to keep us home.

nick and i had a great weekend full of happy hours, rain, new friends, baseball, college football, rain, lattes, cribbage, rain and baking.

i made the best cinnamon sugar cupcakes that i found here.

i can't believe that this is the last week in october. wow, how time flies! this town goes ALL OUT for halloween. i'll have to take pictures of all the houses with the spooky decor and post them.

we also booked our tickets for thanksgiving -- we're going to my grandma's house in texas, and then up to omaha for the weekend for a wedding.

i had a job interview last weekend, and i'm keeping my fingers crossed that i get the job!

um, i think that's it for now. :)

have a great week!

this love is contagious.

ah, this picture.
i love this picture.
i think it sums up our wedding reception well.
i think it sums up our relationship well!
we're kind of silly sometimes.
haha, look at my face.
look at everyones' faces.
i love nick's socks.
i love that he's dancin' so fast, the camera can't catch his hand!
i love that he has a green glo ring on his head.
and, i love that we are surrounded by our best friends and family.
and they are celebrating us.

take me back to maui. part two.

here's part one, if you missed it.

our third day in maui, nicholas and i took maggie (our red mustang) on the road to Hana. from what we read (and heard), the road to hana is about the journey itself. not about actually getting to hana. its all about stopping and exploring and frolicking in waterfalls. if you drove straight there, it would take about 2 hours. but, we took our time and it took us about 7 hours to get there!

we had our maui revealed guidebook in tow, which highlighted which mile-makers to stop at. a lot of the time, you can't see anything from the road, but if you take a short hike off the road, there would be a magnificent waterfall that otherwise you would have completely passed by. very cool.

we left our hotel early, stopped at cj's deli & diner for a packed picnic and hit the road at 8am.
 on the road.
every turn was a one-way road, so if we couldn't see around the bend, we'd honk our horn to let anyone on the other side know that we were coming!

 referring to our handy guidebook.
using the 10 second delay on the camera to take pictures together! (i really need a remote.)
first waterfall. this is one that we would've driven right by! (mile 10)

 my handsome husband.
 enjoying the view.
 so excited!
maggie the mustang. oh by the way, we thought we were so cool when we got our mustang. but, turns out everyone rents mustangs. there were at least 7 in the parking lot at the hotel. and we saw about 25 on the road! we weren't that cool after all. but, we still liked it.
 lots of these, too.

the bridge at my favorite waterfall! (between miles 19 and 20)
three bears falls. this was the coolest waterfall!

we hiked down, swam in the pond, sunbathed, soaked it all in.

it was about a 15 minute hike to the falls.
heaven. and we stayed long enough that everyone else left and we had the whole waterfall to ourselves.

our last stop was the black sand beach at Wai'anapanapa.

 except it wasn't really sand.
not sure what was going on with my bangs that day, but i love this picture!
and then, we headed back!

check out our hotel in part three!
