to the birthday boy:

happy 26th birthday, lover! i am so happy that you married me and that you continue to show me so much love and support. we already experienced so much our first 4 months of marriage and all i can say is that i'm so happy to have you by my side. thank you for always staying positive. thank you for always saying "mmm, this is so good!" no matter what i cook. thank you for carrying my suitcase upstairs/downstairs. thank you for motivating me to be a better person. thank you for telling me i'm beautiful as soon as i wake up in the morning. thank you for always letting me pick the restaurant or movie. and thank you for being you.

i love you times a thousand,

let's eat cake.

i traded in my new year's eve plans of going to the rose bowl in l.a. to spend my love's birthday with him. (he originally was going to have to work all night, but when he found out he'd be home, i just couldn't let him stay here all alone.) we ordered a pizza from pizza my heart, i baked an impromtu cake, bought a bottle of champagne and rang in the new year with my love. 2011 is going to be a great year!

los gatos, ca to portland, or.

during our 11 hour drive to portland, i decided to take one picture every hour on the hour. here's what we saw...
7:00 am

 9:00am - rain.

10:00am - more rain.
 11:00 am - Lunch time!
12:00pm - snow on the ground!
4:00pm - off the highway to fill up the gas tank.
 6:00pm - finally to portland!

we had such a pretty drive to portland! other than a couple hours of rain, the drive was perfect. we listened to the girl with the dragon tattoo on audiobook which made the trip seem really quick. once we arrived in portland, we had a great dinner at hopworks brewery (delicious drunken thai chicken pizza!)  and stayed the night at my brother-in-law's house. the next morning we left bright and early for seattle!

merry christmas eve!

i forgot my camera cord, so i can't upload all of my pictures. (they'll come later.) but i did manage to snap this one on nick's phone of miss olivia decorating a gingerbread man! we're off to church tonight and have a delicious christmas gumbo planned. i miss my family terribly, but its so fun to spend the holiday with new family. :)

merry christmas eve from seattle!!

road trippin'.

it's bright and early this morning and we are packing up the car for our 15+ hour road trip to seattle! we've decided to stay the night in portland with my brother-in-law to break up the trip a bit, but we'll still be on the road FOREVER. (fingers crossed it doesn't rain the whole time we're in the car.) we're listening to this to pass the time... i'm so excited. wishing safe travels to everyone else out there driving or flying for the holidays!

rain, rain, rain.

it's been raining for two days straight here. i think mother nature is just prepping us because for christmas we're headed to...

seattle! and the forecast looks like it'll be raining the whole time..

my first week at work was great. i only had a couple minor mishaps, but nothing too crazy. for example, during a team building activity, we had to name all the countries we've been to and name our favorite. i said amsterdam was my favorite country because the canals that run through the city are so neat and i loved riding my bike everywhere. however, everyone just laughed and made marijuana-related jokes. i was so embarrassed... then after the team meeting i realized oh yeah, amsterdam is a city not a country. duh! great first impression, huh?! oh well. hopefully everyone was too excited about upcoming christmas vacation and they won't remember!

today we're enjoying some hot cocoa and watching the rain outside! hope everyone is staying dry and warm.

7 days until christmas!

first day of work and new glasses!

hey everyone! my first day of work went really well. i love it already. one little surprise though - my position is a little different than what i had expected. which is actually great because i would have loved either job, but i'll get to interact with more people in the company with my new role (business planner). it was SO GREAT to be able to pop over to nick's office and say  "hello." except, i didn't know if i should say our normal "love you" in front of everyone!

i've already learned more than this little brain can handle for one day. i'm going to rest really well tonight! the next couple weeks are going to fly by especially with all the holidays. can you believe that christmas is in 10 days!?

oh, and i got some new glasses just in time for my new job. i need them for long distance (driving, presentations, etc). even though i've had lasik eye surgery, my vision has gotten a little worse than 20/20. i decided to go with a bold frame.
what do you think?
(i think they make me look smarter!)

white elephant ideas?

there are so many times when i'm out shopping and i think "i would love to get (or give!) this as a gift." but now, when its time for a white elephant exchange, i can't decide what to get!

criteria: gender neutral, $25 or less, no gag gifts. (let's be real, as funny as it may be, i'd rather spend money on something useful!)

here's what i've come up with so far:

1. something useful - like an umbrella or flashlight? clear bubble umbrella - $18
2. a board game or maybe a puzzle (man, i sound boring.) balderdash or apples to apples - $20
3. alcohol related gifts - margarita glass set + tequila (or champagne flutes + a little bubbly) zazz margarita glass - $4 each
4. coffee related gifts - reusable coffee mugs + a gift card to starbucks? travel mug - $6 each
5. appetizer plates - i just love the colors! set of 6 travel plates - $25

do any of you lovely, creative readers have other ideas?
what would you want to get?

thanks for the help!

pink and polka dots and bows.

i just happened to be browsing through anthropologie yesterday* and found this ADORABLE apron on sale. it just happens to be for little girls, which makes it 1,000 times more adorable. i just happen to have a trip planned to visit a very sweet little girl in Seattle for Christmas! and i may have just happened to purchase this little beauty and now its sitting under my tree.

my niece olivia!

i can't wait for Christmas!

*my start date at work was pushed back until wednesday. so, i had the day off yesterday for some more shopping! thanks for all the encouraging words - y'all are so sweet!

sunday in union square.

on sunday, nicholas and i took the bart train into the city for a little holiday adventure. we ate lunch at a fancy european outdoor cafe. grabbed lattes at starbucks, played cards/people watched under the christmas tree in union square, and went ice skating! ice skating was so much fun. i've only been about 3 or 4 times in my life, but i felt really comfortable on the ice in no time. the hardest part was the super CROWDED rink. it was hard to move and kiddos kept falling right in front of me! don't let nicholas fool you, he was completely awkward on the ice and it was hilarious! i was laughing so hard, i almost fell. (but, neither of us did fall, which was a miracle!)

ps. that macy's is like seven stories! its crazy.

happy friday!

happy friday friends. today is my last weekday as a housewife. (well, for now!) i start my brand new job on monday. i'm really excited. it is kind of like the first day of school. i've spent most of my morning updating my blog. i'm not sure how much time i'll have to blog once the new job starts. what do you think? there are buttons for our engagement, wedding and honeymoon posts. very convenient, huh? now i'm looking forward to a great weekend with my husband... maybe some christmas light viewing. possibly some ice skating. definitely some christmas shopping. hope y'all have a fantastic weekend, too!
