a lovely day in monterey.

last saturday, nicholas and i drove a little over an hour to monterey. the weather in northern california has been amazing! (68 degrees and sunny, clear skies) and saturday was no exception. we explored cannery row and enjoyed fish, calamari and grilled artichokes for lunch right on the water. it was so pretty! after lunch, we went to lover's point... rocks that form a point out into the bay. we climbed to the end of the rocks, basked in the sun and watched the brave surfers ride the waves. this is definitely a spot we want to go back to. (next time, we want to go to the aquarium, too!)

muir woods.

we visited the muir woods national monument this saturday after our picnic overlooking the golden gate bridge. we were surrounded by coastal redwoods - the tallest living things. some are even taller than the statue of liberty. it was so great to get outdoors after spending 60 hours in an office building this week!

the golden gate bridge.

we had such beautiful weather this weekend - i almost forgot it was january! 65 degrees and clear, sunny skies in san francisco... can't get any better than that! we drove north across the golden gate bridge to marin county, found a lookout and enjoyed a picnic overlooking the golden gate bridge, san francisco, alcatraz and the bay. we're so lucky to live here!

inspired by the great weather and magnificent bridge, nicholas and i agreed to ride our bikes across the bridge and into sausalito this summer! :) i'm looking forward to coming back here soon.

typical weeknight.

(this picture has nothing to do with the post, except that i'm really craving gelato right now!)

since i started my fancy new job in december, i've been working really long hours to try to learn everything i can... but unfortunately, i haven't had enough time to dedicate to my little ol' blog. like i never told y'all about a earthquake we had on friday. it was basically right underneath my office, 4.1 on the Richter scale.  (i was driving and honestly didn't even feel it, but i would have liked to.) or that i made the best soup ever! (well, second best; my chicken tortilla soup is the best.) i haven't even taken our christmas tree down yet! i'll try to get that done by the end of february. (haha, ok, january!)

so i get home between 5:45pm and 6:45pm, check my email and regular mail, make dinner, do a load of laundry and then its time for bed again! so boring, right?! but, at least i appreciate the weekends more and am looking forward to more california explorations with my hubbie.

oh ps. nicholas and i have a new niece born on 1/1/11. emma marie has the coolest birthday ever!

sunday morning in LG.

my hubbie's back in town after being on a business trip for 6 (long, lonely, miserable) days. to celebrate his return, we had brunch at sweet pea's (the last time we were here was before we moved!) - banana and nutella crepes - delicious!

hope everyone has a fantastic week!

wine tasting (and peacock watching) in the santa cruz mountains.

last weekend, nicholas and i had our very first house guests in california! dave, justine, and krista came up for a visit. and, you cannot visit northern california without drinking some wine... so we took them right to our backyard - the santa cruz mountains. lucky us, we have dozens and dozens of wineries within 20 minutes of our home. (napa and sonoma are a little less than 2 hours away.) one winery we went to, the picchetti winery, has peacocks roaming around on the property, but we couldn't get this guy to fan out his feathers. i guess we'll just have to go again soon! (wine tasting is so much fun!)

hello, 2011.

dear 2011,

this year i would like to travel more and save more. and, exercise more. and continue blogging. and, not work 12 hours a day like i have been already. i would like to focus on being a great wife and daughter and sister. and i would like more people to come visit us. i would like to try new restaurants and finish the millennium trilogy. i would like to see the ocean, the desert, the snow and the Eiffel tower. i would kind of like to take a ride in a hot air balloon. and, wear more skirts. think we can make that happen?

love,
lacey

goodbye, 2010!

today is the first day of a new year... and i am so excited for 2011.
(although, 2011 is going to have its work cut out for it because 2010 was pretty darn amazing.)

in 2010, we rang in the new year in fort worth, newly engaged on nicholas's 25th birthday. in january, i got the worst hair cut of my life, set a date for our wedding and commenced 8 months of wedding planning.

in february, nick and i played in the snow and got lost in a tent. i wore scrubs to work and cheered on the good ol' USA in the olympics. nick got an iphone (and i'm still jealous!). i spent some time daydreaming about our honeymoon. we celebrated our engagement at a winery, we started our marriage preparation classes and went out on dates. oh, and i went cake tasting for the first time!

i tried to be vegan the first week in march. (that didn't last very long!) we started our registry. our moms came to visit and we picked out my wedding dress! we sat in coffee shops and took our engagement pictures. and, between all the fun times with friends, i studied for an important test.

nicholas planned a day full of surprises for my 24th birthday in april, including a visit to the Modern Art Museum in fort worth to see the andy warhol exhibit. we had too much fun at the main streets arts festival. and i studied some more and finally took that important test. we enjoyed our weekend with delicious dinners in dallas and some live music! i shared a little about me. and we changed our honeymoon from mexico to maui.

in may we entertained the idea of moving to california (although, we didn't tell anyone that's why we were really going...) and we fell in love with it. we drank margaritas for cinco de mayo. i found out that all the studying paid off. we spent a weekend in austin for my dear friend's bachelorette party, watched baseball and ate at my favorite mexican food restaurant.

in june, nicholas started traveling back and forth to california and i always missed him so much when he was gone. we made sure to take advantage of our weekends together. i thought i wanted to be lady gaga, but that never happened. the summer of 2010 was a hot one, but we remedied that with gelato and a dip in the pool. and we finally announced to the world our big news that we were moving across the country. we traveled to georgia to see our friends get married and to wrap up a great month, i satisfied my guilty pleasure.

we loved our low-key fourth of july. we knew that summer wouldn't be summer without some time at the pool. but, we spent most of the month getting ready for our wedding!

in august, we searched for apartments in california and did some sight-seeing, completed the finishing touches for the wedding and i enjoyed two wedding showers. one with my co-workers and one with my friends!

september was by far our busiest month! our family gathered in fort worth for our wedding, we got married, we honeymooned in maui, we packed up our life and relocated to california. and, we began our new life as husband and wife.

as we settled in to our new apartment in october, we took time to explore the city, sausalito, half moon bay, and meet up with our only family in california. for halloween, we dressed up as a flapper and waldo!

after at least a month of interviewing, i accepted a new job in november! we acted like tourists in san francisco (well, we kinda are tourists!) and i showcased our cozy home. we spent thanksgiving in texas with my family and nick was best man in a wedding in omaha.

december was full of christmas wishes and lots of rain! we went ice skating in union square and nick had a fancy holiday party for work. nicholas got a promotion at work! and i made chili and cinnamon rolls for dinner. i started my new job and got new glasses. we drove up to portland, then seattle for christmas. we stayed in for new year's eve to celebrate nick's 26th birthday!

nicholas and i couldn't be happier with all the blessings and new experiences we had in 2010.

wishing all my family, friends and fellow bloggers a
wonderfully happy new year.

ps. here's a review of 2009.
