i am  SO SO SO happy right now. like cartwheels-in-the-living-room and jumping-for-joy . if you would have seen me yesterday, you would have thought i had won my first gold medal and won the lottery on the same day!! that's what it feels like!!

"why?" you may ask. well....

first of all, i got a promotion at work a while back (!!!!!) and i FINALLY got to start training for my new position. i am beyond excited about joining a new team and learning a new role. i will be moving from operations to human resources! so far i love it! i don't think you're supposed to have this much fun at work. :) last week, i got to go on an offsite with the HR group... lunch in los gatos, wine tasting in the santa cruz mountains, and then dinner and charades. amazing time.

second of all, i'd like to introduce my new kate spade handbag...

i have been in desperate need of a new purse and i love this one. she (i named her katie) even smells like new, amazing, luxurious leather. me likey.

and BEST of all, nicholas and i booked a vacation for this fall to...

u.k. here we come!!!!!!!!

nick and i had to make a really hard decision this weekend...

we decided not to keep alfie.

although it was the right decision for us, it still makes me tear up when i think about dropping him back off with the trainer we had picked him up from just two weeks prior.

last thursday, we took alfie to the vet for a check-up. we expected him to be a little scared, but what we didn't expect, was that alfie wanted to lunge at every dog in the place and he showed crazy dominance aggression toward the vet. she told us that alfie would likely require intense one-on-one training in order to maybe be trustworthy around people, other dogs and kids. he wasn't "timid"... he wanted to be the top dog, and if anyone tried to challenge him, he would react by jumping higher, mouthing, growling, etc. unfortunately, we weren't ready to invest in private training, and we wanted a dog that could be sociable with us, since we live pretty social lives. it hit us pretty hard when the vet said, "if i were you, i wouldn't adopt this dog."

i know we only had him for 2 weeks... and he wasn't a perfect dog, but i got really attached to him in a short amount of time. it was hard to say goodbye.

we hope and pray that alfie finds a family that lives out in the country, that lets him run around off leash and get plenty of exercise and that gives him lots of love and belly rubs. we'll miss him.

The boys.

needless to say, we are pretty attached to alfie even after just one week. alfie loves to snuggle with me, but he especially loves to do "guy" things with nick like playing fetch and riding in the car! we are still planning on taking him to obedience training, but where we want to go doesn't start for another 4 weeks. so, we'll be on our own until then. alfie is very protective of us - to the point where is it difficult to go on walks around the neighborhood because he thinks anything that moves (bird, chihuahua, bicyclist) is going to try to attack us. if we stay inside our house or our yard though, he is just a sweetheart! what can i say... sometimes boys are just stubborn, but we'll get there.

here are a few pics of the boys being boys...

so, we did something crazy on saturday... we brought a dog home!

this is alfie:

he is a rescue dog, so we don't know a whole lot about his history. we think he is a brittany/irish setter mix, and he's about 3 yrs old. we get to foster him for a few weeks to make sure he is a good fit for us and we are a good fit for him before we officially adopt him. but so far, so good.

alfie is such a goofball! he thinks he is a little lap dog... but he definitely is NOT! he's actually about 60 pounds. inside of our house and yard, he is such a sweetheart. all he wants to do is to give you kisses and be petted. he follows me around like my shadow, and just wants to hang out with us. outside of our yard he's a little timid, so we're signing him up for obedience classes to build up his confidence and his trust in us.

this is quite the adventure that we've set for ourselves! i've been reading up on alllllll kinds of training techniques because i want to make sure we are really good doggie parents. we are so excited to have this little guy as a part of our family!

Nights like this remind me how awesome it is to live in Northern California.

i hope everyone enjoyed your fourth of july! we continued our celebrations friday night with a concert in the vineyard at robert mondavi winery in napa valley.

our good friend joshua's band, GRO, opened for the plain white t's! we grabbed a picnic at oakville grocery on our way to the show. there were some reserved seats, but we sat on the lawn with a big picnic blanket and had a fantastic view!

we seriously had to keep pinching ourselves... yes, we live here. yes, the weather is perfect. yes, this has to be the best fried chicken sandwich i've ever had. yes, this is the rhythm of love. yes, we are in napa.

[goodies at oakville grocery - highly recommend for a picnic provisions!]

[amazing scenery behind the crowd]

[our picnic set-up!]

[fried chicken sandwich was GOOOOOOD. really good.]

[singing 1, 2, 3, 4]

[hanging with joshua backstage. yeah, we're cool like that!]

now, we just need to work on getting his girlfriend miss lauren out here
to visit too, and my life would be complete!

[inspiration from pinterest]

i love the 4th of july. it was july 4th, 2008 when the stars aligned for nicholas and me, and we've been inseparable ever since. we were at a pool party with several of our friends in hurst, texas. it was hot and we were all splashing in the pool, and i thought to myself... hmm, he's pretty cute. as soon as justine and dave caught us flirting, they were on a mission to hook us up. we spent the whole weekend together and by tuesday of that week, i knew i was in love. four years have flown by, but i also feel like i've known nicholas my whole life.

i'm so happy to get to spend another 4th of july with my love.

we'll be wearing red, white and blue and celebrating the day with a barbeque up in san francisco! one of nick's friends from omaha lives up there and he also shares his birthday with our independence day. wouldn't it be nice to always have fireworks on your birthday?! because we both have to work tomorrow, we may head back to san jose early. but, hopefully, we'll still get to see some fireworks today, too.
