before our long weekend in ashland, oregon, i hadn't really ever heard of the town. yet when we left... we kept referring to it as awesome ashland!
nick and i had driven through ashland on our trips to portland and seattle, but we didn't see much from the interstate. so, when nick's siblings suggested we get together in ashland for the weekend, i didn't think much of it. boy, was i pleasantly surprised! ashland is such a cute town.
it's known for its shakespeare festival and i would love to go back soon to see a play.
ashland was super outdoorsy, the air was fresh, the people were friendly (even the shakespeare/renaissance folks who were super quirky), the nightlife was bumpin' (thanks to the university in town) and the breweries were delicious. we got a great deal on a vrbo house for the weekend and took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen. one of the nights, we made dinner at the house and sat outside by the fire pit, drank wine and listened to CJ play the guitar.
it was such a fun and relaxing weekend. i loved seeing my nieces and in-laws! and, it was the perfect spot for nick's siblings and us to meet in the middle!
one of the main reasons we went to austin for labor day weekend (other that to celebrate our second anniversary) was to attend the wedding of our dear friend krista to jake! they got married on the sunday before labor day, just like we did two years prior!
the ceremony was outdoors, surrounded by gorgeous trees, and the reception was inside (thank goodness for that air conditioning)! it was so great to catch up with old friends, chat with new friends, dance the night away and celebrate.
i loved all the vintage details and of course, we all took advantage of the photobooth!
after the wedding, the couple honeymooned in maui - just like us!
it made me want to go back to hawaii with my love!
congrats to krista and jake!

like i mentioned before... we had TONS of fun in austin and i have lots of photos to share to prove it!
on our third day in austin, we met up with our friends dave, justine, lauren, joshua, saxon and anissa for brunch at hillside farmacy... the decor was so cool and hip!

after brunch we went to the cedar door to watch the husker's football game and my parents met us there! my parents live about a 6 hour drive south of austin, but they drove up to meet us since we were in the state of TX! it was sooooooo good to see them. last time i saw them was last december for our christmas cruise.
later that evening, my parents took us out to dinner at eddie v's (we were completely spoiled by them!) and then we stopped by the driskill hotel for a cocktail before bed!
the next morning, (day five) we met them for a quick brunch before they got back on the road... and then nicholas and i made a snap decision to go kayaking on lady bird lake! we had a blast.
since we missed the bats, we decided to kayak down to the bridge to see if we could spot anything from below. well, it turned out the congress st. bridge was a LOT further than we thought... we made it, but we definitely got more of a workout than we bargained for. (which wasn't all that bad considering all the food we've been eating!)
i always feel less guilty for eating burgers and fries and drinking beers when i'm still wearing my workout gear! hehe.
later that evening...
the south congress st. bridge in austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in north america. every night, just after sunset... the bats all fly out to go hunt for the night. we waited from 7:45pm to 9:15pm... and we saw a few bats flying around. but, we were hungry, so we left before the thousands of bats flew out!
next time you are in austin, you must go to rainey street. it's this cute little neighborhood street lined with old bungalow houses that have been turned into unique bars and restaurants! we had so much fun, especially because justine, dave and a few of our other TX friends met us down there! after our dinner at banger's (sausage house and beer garden), we stopped at clive bar and icenhauer's for cocktails!
i wish we could go back right now!!
