My Heart is Aching Today

image via weheartit

Nicholas lost a good friend of his yesterday in a tragic accident. And, I can't stop thinking about those affected by the tornados in Oklahoma.

In this time of grief, there is only one thing to do... Pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that your loving presence may be felt in the community in Oklahoma that has experienced this tragedy that claimed so many lives. It's hard for me to imagine the magnitude of so many lives lost so suddenly. I also pray for one life that was tragically cut too short in San Francisco this weekend. May your love pour forth through the prayers, presence and service of your caring people to begin the healing process. Heal those who have suffered injury and comfort those who are grieving the loss of loved ones. Bind together the community in grace and faith. Send in your helping angels. In the name of Christ, I pray. Amen.

How to see San Francisco in One Day

Our friends Lauren and Joshua made a quick stop in the bay area (from Fort Worth) before heading up to a wedding in Sonoma... and lucky for us, Nicholas and I got to play tour guides in the city with them!

First stop... see the Full House houses aka the Painted Ladies at Alamo Square.

Then, stop by the Ferry Building for lunch.

We ate on the patio at Market Bar. Love the yellow umbrellas!

Walk down to the second cable car stop on Hyde-Powell line at Union Square.
(Don't wait in the loooong lines at the turnarounds... just go up a stop and hop on when it comes by!)

At the end of the line, duck into the Buena Vista to warm up with an Irish coffee.

Take a stroll down to Fisherman's Wharf. If you go all the way down to the end, you can see the gorgeous views of the city to one side and on the other, the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
^Yep, it was just a little windy out there!

Next, make your way down to the Marina. Stop by the Tipsy Pig, wander out to the back patio and order a Strawberry Fields... heaven on a sunny day.

Next, it's cocktail hour (not to be confused with the happy hour you just had a the Tipsy Pig!)
Make sure you know the password and step back to the Prohibition Era at Bourbon and Branch.

Now, that is a day well spent in San Francisco.

(And even better... On your way home, the DD will make the executive decision to stop for pizza since you forgot to have dinner!)

But of course, it is way more fun with Lolo and Joshua in town!!!
Miss you guys... thanks for visiting and please come back soon!

Happy Mother's Day!

I've decided to break my unintentional blogging hiatus (whoops!!) for a very important reason...

my mama!

Happy Mother's Day to the most amazing, beautiful (inside and out), caring and loving mom out there! Life would be so dull without you. Wish we were together today.

Love you!
XOXOXOX

PS. Happy Mother's Day to my mother-in-law, Debbie! Thank you for raising Nicholas to be such an amazing man!

A Date Night Surprise

"Don't make any plans for Friday night... I have a surprise."

That's all I told Nicholas.

Oh and of course, I (vaguely) told him what to wear.... "Jeans, T-shirt, comfy shoes, and a sweater."

Nicholas is such a giving husband. He travels a lot and when he comes home, we usually end up doing whatever I want to do because he likes to make me happy. (I know, how did I get so lucky?) Well, it was my turn to do something special for him.

He had absolutely no clue what we were doing for our date night until we pulled up to the CalTrain station to take a train up to the city and I gave him a Giants t-shirt to wear! He thought we were just going to dinner, but instead we took the bullet train up to SF for a baseball game!

^One of the most beautiful stadiums I've been to.
Loved looking out over the bay as the sun set.

^Just boarded CalTrain, sporting his new shirt!

^Sneaky wife :)

^It was my first Giants game and I had so much fun. I had a lot of questions about the game and keeping score, but this game was probably the most "in" to baseball I've ever been. I watched the whole game and the Giants won!

^When we arrived we picked up these delicious crab sandwiches from Crazy Crab'z... yummy!

^And, without knowing, I got us the perfect seats. We were blocked from the wind (which is REALLY, REALLY important at this stadium or you'll freeze once the sun goes down!) and we had a great view.

We both had so much fun and I love that I was able to spoil my husband... he deserves it!

(And, yes, now I'm a Giants fan!!)

Big City Girl.

I'd never actually considered moving to San Francisco until this happened...

I became a "Big City Girl"... Well, at least that's what I called myself after spending three days commuting up to San Francisco for a training - HAH! I would get up early, drive to the BART station, jump on the train for 45 minutes, then emerge from underground in the middle of the city!

I happened to luck out because my training was right in the middle of one of the most beautiful weeks, weather wise, in San Francisco that I've ever experienced. If you've never been to the city, let me just tell you... it's always at least 15 degrees cooler than San Jose and foggy and windy. But, not this time! And the icing on the cake was that my training was right near the Embarcadero, just blocks from the Ferry Building. So everyday, I'd walk to the Ferry Building for lunch with all the other 20- to 30- somethings who have these fun, big city lives and I sat right on the water and soaked up the sun until it was time to get back to work!

I can't imagine doing that as a permanent commute, but I did tell Nicholas that if the weather was always like that, I'd move up to the city at least for a year!

Here are some snapshots from my week:

I know only "tourists" look up... but I couldn't help it!

First day of training... Ready to learn!

The Ferry Building, and just look at that gorgeous blue sky.

My first lunch was this delicious salad from Out the Door
I highly recommend it and want it again!

My second morning, I had time to grab a coffee and walk down to the water before my class started. Beautiful!

Another lunch in the Ferry Building!

Last morning stroll down the Embarcadero.

Cute biscuit booth in the Ferry Building.

Last day's lunch: Pizza Politana from one of the farmer's market vendors just outside the Ferry Building.
